The authors also found an indirect effect of leadership competencies on effectiveness via constraints. The study results demonstrate that leader’s competencies are positively related to leadership effectiveness. Moreover, internal consistency and construct validity were assessed by calculating Cronbach’s alpha and assessing the intercorrelations between study variables. Hypotheses were tested by analysing several regression models and mediation effects. In total, five hypotheses were formed which related to the relationship between leadership competencies and effectiveness and the role of constraints. Data were collected directly from leaders via self-reports. The total sample included 242 leaders in a top managerial position. The main purpose of this paper is to test the relationship between leadership competencies and effectiveness, with constraints as a mediating variable, and to introduce the main assumptions of the Bounded Leadership Model (BLM). We found that it is possible to enunciate a set of parameters that can be grouped in a conceptual framework that allows framing the processes of reflection about the components and attributes desired for these communities, the mechanisms and technologies that can be used to implement them and the processes that can lead to an adequate development of these organic entities. It is also part of the case study modality, and data collection was done through questionnaires, interviews and direct observation of two prototype platforms that we have developed. Its methodology relies on an empirical approach, of applicable and mixed scope, using quantitative and qualitative methods. The theoretical axes of our research are centred on the areas of social networks and online communities, networked educational communication and education and multimedia. In this research, we sought to find references that contribute to the analysis and design of online socio-educational communities, considering that this is a relevant area of study in relation to the existing theoretical production, based on the identification of criteria for analysis of these communities, tools that can be used to implement them and strategies to develop them according their goals. The socio-educational aspect of these communities is observable in several websites, using multiple forms of implementation and internal structuring, with differentiated permeability in relation to communication and interaction flows. Although societies have been structured very early on networks of power, knowledge, commerce and culture, among others, networks based on the proliferation of state-of-the-art technological artefacts are still looking for ways to be configured to maximize the advantages of their attributes. Online communities are relatively recent and appear from the emergence of information and communication technologies, a new technological canon that reconfigured our world in a few decades.
